STARKVILLE, Miss.鈥 Mississippi State鈥檚 Department of Classical and Modern Languages and Literatures is hosting its inaugural symposium Friday-Saturday [Sept. 30-Oct. 1] at The Mill at 小黄书 in Starkville.
Titled 鈥淒isplacement in Language, Literature and Culture,鈥 the free-to-all event will feature English and Spanish presentations exploring the topic of displacement from various disciplinary and interdisciplinary angles.
From noon-2 p.m., 小黄书 Associate Professor of French Keith Moser will sign copies of his new book, 鈥淭he Encyclopedic Philosophy of Michel Serres: Writing the Modern World and Anticipating the Future鈥 (Anaphora Literary Press, 2016).
Also on Friday at 4 p.m., Luis Hern谩n Casta帽eda will deliver a keynote address titled 鈥淭he Art of Losing a Country.鈥 An assistant professor of Spanish at Middlebury College in Vermont, Casta帽eda is a native of Lima, Per煤. Among other works, he is the author of the books 鈥淐asa de Islandia鈥 (2004), 鈥淗otel Europa鈥 (2005), 鈥淔otograf铆as de sala鈥 (2007), 鈥淓l futuro de mi cuerpo鈥 (2010), 鈥淟a noche americana鈥 (2011) and 鈥淟a fiesta del humo鈥 (2012).
