STARKVILLE, Miss.— Theatre С’s 53rd season continues Thursday and Friday [Nov. 17-18] at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday [Nov. 20] at 2 p.m. with Oscar Wilde’s satirical classic “The Importance of Being Earnest” on the university’s McComas Hall main stage.
General admission tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children age 10 and under. Tickets may be purchased at the door prior to each performance or in advance at . Group rates are available upon request.
Subtitled “A Trivial Comedy for Serious People,” the production has been called a “hilarious attack on Victorian manners and morals, turning a pompous world on its head, letting duplicity lead to happiness, and making riposte the highest form of art.”
Director Tim Matheny said the “The Importance of Being Earnest” displays Oscar Wilde’s wit and theatrical genius at their brilliant best.
“The Importance of Being Earnest is a wonderfully lighthearted and funny play about everything and nothing at the same time,” said Matheny, an assistant professor of theatre. “I have joked with the cast that it is Seinfeld for the turn of the 20th century.”
The communication department will present two other productions in McComas Hall this season. Also open to all, these shows include:
--Feb. 16-18, 2017, 7:30 p.m., the comedic romp, “Boeing, Boeing.”
--April 20-22, 2017, 7:30 p.m., Arthur Miller’s American classic, “The Crucible.”
