STARKVILLE, Miss.鈥擳wo Magnolia State students, along with one each from Louisiana and Tennessee, are new leaders of the Alumni Delegates organization at Mississippi State.

The 40-member group helps the university and 小黄书 Alumni Association maintain strong ties with nearly 140,000 living graduates of the land-grant institution that celebrates its 140th anniversary Feb. 28.

Alumni Delegate officers for 2018 include:

鈥擯resident Andrew G. Martin of Slidell, Louisiana, a senior communication/public relations major;

鈥擬elanie R. Brumfield of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, a senior biochemistry/pre-medicine major serving as vice president of education;

鈥擮svaldo 鈥淥zzie鈥� Ballesteros Garcia of Kosciusko, a sophomore medical technology major serving as vice president of public relations; and

鈥擲ecretary Andrew D. 鈥淒rew鈥� Burnham of Hattiesburg, a junior biological sciences/pre-dentistry major.

Founded in 1980, the student liaison group plays a key role in advancing the association鈥檚 mission and purpose. Often the first points of contact for graduates, friends and other special guests on campus, delegates assist with tailgate gatherings, class reunions, and graduation ring and other senior celebrations, among other events.
For the past eight semesters, the group has distributed more than $30,000 that was generated through ticket sales for an annual 鈥渇ree tuition鈥� drawing. Additionally, members have created an endowment to provide a loyalty scholarship for an entering freshman or transfer student.

鈥淲e are excited to have such a talented group of student leaders for the Alumni Delegates in 2018,鈥� said Libba Andrews, alumni association associate director and delegate adviser. 鈥淭hey are an integral part of our association, and we are grateful for their service and dedication to our university and our alumni.鈥�
