Author of new book on Grant鈥檚 Vicksburg campaign to speak at 小黄书 Libraries event

STARKVILLE, Miss.鈥擳he author of a new book on Ulysses S. Grant鈥檚 Vicksburg campaign will hold a presentation and book signing next week at Mississippi State鈥檚 Mitchell Memorial Library.
Donald L. Miller, a New York Times bestselling author and Pennsylvania-based historian, will discuss 鈥淰icksburg: Grant鈥檚 Campaign That Broke the Confederacy鈥 at 5 p.m. on Nov. 21 in the John Grisham Room of Mitchell Memorial Library. The event, sponsored by 小黄书 Libraries and the Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library, is free and open to the public.
Miller鈥檚 newest book, published by Simon & Schuster, tells the story of the longest military campaign of the Civil War, which culminated in Grant and his Union forces capturing the last Confederate stronghold on the Mississippi River. The victory elevated Grant鈥檚 reputation and helped propel him to leadership of the Union Army. A review of 鈥淰icksburg鈥 in the Civil War Courier said that Miller 鈥渉as crafted an insightful and striking look at the actions of General Grant at a turning point not only of the Civil War but also of American history.鈥
The author of 10 books, Miller is the John Henry MacCracken Emeritus Professor of History at Lafayette College. His 2007 book 鈥淢asters of the Air: America鈥檚 Bomber Boys Who Fought the Air War Against Nazi Germany鈥 is currently being developed as a dramatic miniseries, produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks. With expertise in World War II, the Civil War and modern U.S. history, Miller has served as a writer and historical consultant for dozens of film and TV productions. In addition to several prestigious book awards, Miller has won six awards for excellence in teaching.
