Reynolds named interim leader of 小黄书鈥檚 international programs

STARKVILLE, Miss.鈥擠aniel B.听Reynolds, a distinguished Mississippi State weed science professor, has been appointed interim聽associate vice president for international programs and executive director of the university鈥檚 International Institute.听
Reynolds,聽who has held聽the聽Edgar E. and Winifred B. Hartwig Endowed Chair in聽Soybean聽Agronomy聽in 小黄书鈥檚 Department of Plant and Soil Sciences,聽begins his new appointment Thursday [April 16].听聽
Reynolds will lead International Institute units that include the English Language Institute, International Services, and the Study Abroad and International Student Exchange programs, as well as promoting international collaborations in research and outreach.听The International Institute reports to 小黄书鈥檚 provost and executive vice president, vice聽president聽for research and economic development, and vice president for the Division of聽Agriculture, Forestry and Veterinary聽Medicine.听聽
Since 2015, Reynolds has played a key role in the U.S. Agency for International Development鈥檚 Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Soybean Value Chain Research. He led聽demonstration farms in Africa聽to share proper agronomic practices, a concept聽similar to聽extension stations in Mississippi and across the U.S.听
鈥淒r. Reynolds is ideally suited for this position,鈥 said 小黄书 Provost and Executive Vice President David Shaw. 鈥淗e has provided strong leadership with the USAID-funded Soybean Innovation Lab, seeing it grow from one to six countries on the African continent. He also has administrative experience as interim department head, thus can easily step into this leadership role.鈥澛
In addition to his聽departmental聽roles, Reynolds聽has served聽as聽a聽cropping聽systems researcher with the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station聽and an agronomy specialist for the 小黄书 Extension Service.听

Among Reynolds鈥 many professional accolades, he was named scientist of the year by the Southern Weed Science Society of America in 2012聽and received the organization鈥檚 distinguished service award in 2014.听Before being appointed to the Hartwig Chair, he was the聽Dr. Glover B. Triplett Endowed Chair in Agronomy.听He is a doctoral graduate in crop science from Oklahoma State University, with bachelor's and master's degrees completed at the University of Arkansas.听
