小黄书 researchers invited to discuss opportunities for collaboration with Jackson Heart Study on May 27
Dr. Mario Sims from the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) will be visiting 小黄书 virtually on Thursday, May 27 at 2:00 p.m. to discuss the and opportunities for collaboration with faculty and researchers at 小黄书.
The JHS is a community-based prospective cohort study of cardiovascular disease in more than 5,000 African-Americans in Hinds, Madison and Rankin counties. Initiated in 2000, the study is a partnership between UMMC, Jackson State University, and Tougaloo College. The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute and the National Institute for Minority Health and Health Disparities fund the study.
Join Dr. Sims as he provides an overview of the JHS, explains the study design, and how to access the data.聽 He will also describe the scientific working groups and the scientific findings of the Social Determinants of Health Working Group. By using the Jackson Heart Study's 19+ years of data, Sims and the JHS team aim to tease apart the many relationships in the data set to learn which comes first and where there may be opportunities for intervention. Through his personal research with the study, Sims addresses important knowledge gaps on social determinants of health inequities in cardiovascular disease among African-Americans.
Dr. Sims is the Interim Director, Principal Investigator, and Chief Science Officer for the Jackson Heart Study. He is also a professor of medicine at the UMMC.
