STARKVILLE, Miss.鈥擬ississippi State鈥檚 College of Business is hosting two experts on consumer credit and mortgage policy during the 2021 Jack R. Lee Distinguished Speaker Series Friday [Oct. 29].

The 2-3:30 p.m. event takes place at the university鈥檚 G.V. 鈥淪onny鈥 Montgomery Center for America鈥檚 Veterans and features a dialogue with Mark Calabria and Todd Zywicki. Questions will be moderated by Professor Tom Miller Jr., 小黄书鈥檚 Jack R. Lee Chair of Financial Institutions and Consumer Finance.

Calabria is a former director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency and served as chief economist to former Vice President Mike Pence. He also served as director of financial regulation at the Cato Institute, as well as a senior aide to the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs. Earlier, Calabria was the deputy assistant secretary for regulatory affairs in the Office of Housing at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. An outspoken commentator on economic and financial issues, his work has appeared in the New York Times, New York Post, USA Today, The Hill, and the Washington Times newspapers and American Banker magazine. He has a doctoral degree in economics from George Mason University.

Zywicki is George Mason University Foundation Professor of Law at the Antonin Scalia Law School and a senior fellow at the Cato Institute鈥檚 Center for Monetary and Financial Alternatives. He is the former chair of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Taskforce on Federal Consumer Financial Law. He has written more than 130 articles for law reviews and peer-reviewed journals and has appeared before Congress numerous times to testify on bankruptcy law and consumer credit. His commentaries on legal issues have appeared in many national print and broadcast media outlets, and he has served as editor and co-editor of the Supreme Court Economic Review. Zywicki received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Virginia and a master鈥檚 in economics from Clemson University, in addition to his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College.
